What are Refugee Community Organisations?

Refugee Community Organisations are groups that support refugees and asylum seekers from certain communities. They do this by organising cultural events, offering advocacy sessions, providing English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, helping refugees to build their IT and English skills and hosting other activities.

Currently, 58 Refugee Community Organisations are members of Leeds Refugee Forum. Between them, they support thousands of people.

How does Leeds Refugee Forum help Refugee Community Organisations?

At Leeds Refugee Forum we work closely with Refugee Community Organisations. We encourage and assist discussions between different groups to create positive links between these communities. This helps mobilise them to advocate for the needs and aspirations of refugees and asylum seekers.

We organise training and workshops to help Refugee Community Organisations with management, governance, development, funding and capacity building. To provide a base where Refugee Community Organisations can meet and host their activities, we manage and run the One Community Centre.

Every year, Refugee Community Organisations work with us at Leeds Refugee Forum to organise events for Refugee Week.
